A Collaboration with Peachtree Catering
Peachtree, a local catering company dedicated to quality food and experiences, reached out last week to see if Hempsley would be interested in contributing an herbal blend to their upcoming Sunday Supper. After hearing a little bit about the evening's concept, we were immediately hooked!!
Sunday Suppers are Peachtree's monthly event that always showcase a unique, surprise experience and quality, local food. This particular supper was a partnership with local Barred Owl Butcher, Logboat Brewing Company, and A1 Party & Event Rental. Because they're always a surprise, Peachtree could only give us a few hints about what all would be taking place at the dinner. This is what we had to work with:
The theme is the Summer Solstice; celebrating the season’s change and the new life it brings with it. Lore says that ashes from a great bonfire spread over your garden wards off evil spirits and brings blessings. We are sending everyone home with a glass vial of ash from the fire we will be cooking on. Here’s where you come in.. we were kicking around the idea of also sending them with healing herbs to either throw on their own figurative fires.
Fire will be a constant element and the sun will be incorporated. Basil, lavender, oregano, fennel, and honey will all be present. Lemon, lime, and garlic might say hello.
This was such a fun concept that we decided to come up with a completely new herbal blend to honor the flavors that would be used in the dinner as well as the lore behind the idea. We wanted to use herbs that would inspire reflection and celebration to help guests welcome in this new Summer Solstice season of their lives.
We started experimenting with mullein, lavender, orange peel (to honor the citrus in the dishes), fennel seed, basil, passionflower, marshmallow root, and ginger and ultimately came up with a blend of four herbs: mullein, lavender, orange peel, and fennel seed.
