A few months back, I posted an illustration that I created for Hempsley of a cannabis plant and had incredible feedback, with many people wondering if they could purchase it. At the time, I had lofty ambitions to print, package, and distribute these myself, but soon realized that I simply didn't have the time. I still wanted to put the design out there for people who were interested, so I decided to turn to Society6 for help and — four months later (apologies) — I finally bring you the Hempsley Collection.
Both the best and worst part of digital artwork is the endless opportunity that accompanies it. If I had more time, I would create many more versions of these illustrations for you to access — and if these do well, I'll do just that! Until then, I've settled on just five, now available on over 30 products each — everything from shower curtains to comforters, cards, rugs, blankets, leggings, and so much more.
Of course, at least one of the designs had to display the quote "cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants." My hope is that coupling this with a botanical illustration of a cannabis plant will help bring more awareness to the fact that the government has a patent on cannabis, further helping to dispel the negative stigma surrounding this medicinal plant.
I've been dying to have some custom leggings for a while now, so figured what better opportunity than to order a pair of my own leggings? My goal with these was to make the print so large that it wasn't obvious it's cannabis, but cool enough to spark conversation with people who were curious enough to inquire about what it was.
Deciding which pair to order was tough, but after spending way too much time staring at them all, I finally went with the watercolor pair. If they're amazing, you can bet I'll be ordering the white on black next!
I also ordered a little pouch and beach towel (my last beach towel I picked out had Harry Potter on it, so I thought it would be ok to finally replace it). It probably goes without saying that you'll be seeing these in photoshoots on my Instagram soon!
As I reviewed my order history on Society6, I saw that my Bass Fish illustration was doing particularly well; I've sold 6 shower curtains with that little illustration!! Seeing this inspired me to revisit the products this illustration could appear on, as well as create a little collection titled "Midwest Moments" filled with artwork inspired by Midwestern culture. It includes lots of Bass Fish items, a street scene from my visit to Nashville, a pair of hands nurturing a little sprout (Missouri is full of farmers), a typographic poster inspired by lake house life, and even apparel celebrating the birth of my niece (customizeable for the new baby in your life, obviously!).
