During my last trip to Colorado in January, I happened to be lucky enough to be seated next to the founders of SteepFuze CBD coffee at the Winter Mason Jar event. I had a great time chatting with Devin and Ben over our beautiful seven-course, cannabis enhanced dinner about how their company came about. By the end of the night, they had graciously offered me a sample of their nationally-available CBD coffee to take home with me.
The great thing about this coffee is that it levels you out while waking you up.
Coffee is hard on my stomach, so I rarely seek it out; I normally just drink it socially. But this coffee is very unique. It is infused with CBD, which balances the effects of caffeine for, as SteepFuze puts it, "an invigorating, alert, and focused experience." This is perfect for me since I often wake with anxious nausea. When I vape CBD in the morning to relieve distracting pain, it can make me sleepy — but when paired with coffee, it naturally wakes me up instead.
Ingesting CBD through the coffee is also a great way to get long lasting relief. If I wake up in the morning with anxiety, vaporizing CBD can sometimes make me sleepy if I'm not fully awake and going yet. With ingesting the CBD through the coffee, however, it is metabolized more slowly to produce more powerful and long-lasting effects.
Research is uncovering that there may be a very good reason why CBD and coffee pair so wonderfully together: caffeine, like cannabis, interacts with our endocannabinoid system. As we often find in this industry, more research is needed to fully understand this connection, but it is exciting to finally be discovering how this plant can interact with other plants and our bodies to encourage optimal wellness.
This coffee also has a story.
It only exists because founder Devin Jamroz injured himself in a snowboarding accident and began experimenting with cannabinoid therapies to replace the pharmaceuticals he was prescribed. It was his morning routine of a tincture and cup of coffee that inspired the idea to infuse coffee beans, and after years of perfecting the technique, it is now available through mail order nationwide.
But that's not all.
The coffee beans are roasted by the world's only known blind master coffee roaster, Gerry Leary, who uses his senses of smell and sound instead of sight to perfectly roast all of his Arabica, certified fair trade organic beans.
The CBD used to create this coffee is derived from pesticide-free, organically grown industrial hemp. The wonderful thing about this CBD is that it is a whole-plant, full-spectrum extraction so that you can benefit from all the cannabinoids and terpenes hemp has to offer. This is important because research is showing that for cannabis to be most effective as a medicine, all the compounds in the plant need to be able to work together. This is known as the entourage effect.
And instead of the beans being coated in an oil or soaked in a tincture, they are infused through the oils that naturally come from the raw beans during the roasting process.
Yes, you heard that right. SteepFuze has figured out how to use the natural oils from coffee beans to create a seamless and delicious infusion. This means that you don't have to worry about any extra oils or weird, artificial flavoring being added to your medicine — and every bag is labeled with exactly how much CBD it contains so that you can find a dose that works perfectly for you then maintain it.
Oh and it's roasted-to-order, meaning that when you order your coffee online, it will be roasted and shipped within the same week. Can you say fresh?
Be sure to check out the SteepFuze website, and if you give their coffee a try let us know how you like it!!
